OC Techhub

Welcome to the community for thinkers and tinkers

Hi There!

Welcome to OC Techhub! OC Techhub is a purpose-driven, future-thinking community of altruistic techies and tech enthusiasts who share a common love of creating wonderful things to help those around them.   We are a physical center in Irvine, CA where people with common interests in computers, technology, science, art, entrepreneurship, and start-up business can meetup, socialize, and/or collaborate, teach, and learn.

Get Involved!

OC Techhub (Dojo) is a community of members who share a common love of creating wonderful things and understanding how the world works.   The Dojo is a do-ocracy run by members, including several self organizing teams like events, government, community outreach, and operations.  Get Involved through Events, lectures, parties, BarCamps, DevHouses, LAN parties, hackathons, knitting circles, tinkering, brainstorming, and coworking: you name it, we got it.  There is lots to do at Dojo! From "fix-it" days to computing classes, or even just hanging out, you'll find something to keep you busy!

Accelerator

Through an open application process, we take classes of start-ups consisting of small teams. Seed accelerator support the start-ups with funding, mentoring, training and events for a definite period (usually three months), in exchange for equity.  Typical exchange is under 10% equity stake for under $10,000 seed. While traditional business incubators are often government-funded, generally take no equity, and focus on biotech, medical technology, clean tech or product-centric companies, we are privately funded and focused on ESG start-ups. The application process is open to anyone, but highly competitive. The acceptance rate is below 3%. The focus is on small teams, not on individual founders. We consider that one person is insufficient to handle all the work associated with a startup. The startups must "graduate" by a given deadline, typically 3 months. During this time, they receive intensive mentoring and training, and they are expected to iterate rapidly. Virtually all accelerators end their programs with a "Demo Day", where the start-ups present to investors.  Start-ups are accepted and supported in cohort batches or classes. The peer support and feedback that the classes provide is an important advantage. The primary value to the entrepreneur is derived from the mentoring, connections, and the recognition of being chosen to be a part of the accelerator. The business model is based on generating venture style returns, not rent, or fees for services.  Seed accelerator includes a physical space. The process that start-ups go through in the accelerator can be separated into five distinct phases: awareness, application, program, demo day, post demo day.

Incubator

An incubator providing tech startups with concierge services in exchange for equity.  We incubate founders to tackle large, global markets and solve real problems using technology.  Our incubator guides startup teams through the process of turning their project into a startup through a product and growth-focused program.  Working with only 4–6 startups per quarter to ensure that your company gets the attention it needs.  We focus entirely on your startup’s development and fundraising.  Culminates with a week of investor meetings for the best chance at raising funds.   Quarterly applications are peer-reviewed.  the high-scoring applicants meet investors.  Each founder receives quality feedback.  No limit to the number of times a startup can applyApplications are blind with no mention of gender, age, ethnicity, or education.  Increases the diversity of founders and startups.  Educating our investors to look beyond pattern-matching.  Expanding into hardware, clean tech, and robotics to serve more founder.  Because we do not invest, we provide founders with the freedom to raise funds or exit startups in any way they prefer.  As a result, more startups survive and founders are happier.  Participation in the Co-op requires a 2% equity stake. 1 of the 2% will be placed in a pool shared by all startups in a class, mentors and team of the cohort.  Each startup holds advisory shares in every other startup.

We're creating a physical community space for techies and entrepreneurs in Irvine, California, USA.  The proposed use is about 1/3 coworking space, 1/3 events venue, and 1/3 a big social living room.  This is a location for events, lectures, parties, bar camps, DevHouses, LAN parties, hackathons, knitting circles, tinkering, brainstorming, coworking, and more.   We welcome visitors to many of our lectures and classes and invite people to use the space on a drop-in basis.  The Dojo is a community space first and foremost - this means that the focus of the layout and activities is to lend itself to be a useful place to throw classes, host parties, brainstorm, and hang out.
